Smoothie Skincare

I love smoothies. They’re quick and easy, and – if you have all the right ingredients on hand – really basic. And, let’s face it, a lot more convenient to make and consume than a salad (not to knock salads, but I can’t eat them while driving!). A reader of this blog sent me her favourite smoothie recipe. It’s not only delicious, but wonderful for skin tone, she claims. I believe her after looking at the ingredients! (It’s good to note that the more powerful the blender, the better. Look for a future blog post on this topic.)


  • ½ plain coconut water

  • 1 frozen ripe banana (this is a great one for the freezer. Just peel and slice them and pop them into a container)

  • ½ cup frozen blueberries

  • 1 cup sliced pineapple

  • 1 cup chopped mango

  • 2 cups spinach

  • ½ avocado

  • 1 Tablespoon spirulina


Each of these ingredients pack a powerful punch. Coconut water is wonderfully hydrating (and, if you’re like me and not big on the taste of it, the strength of the fruit added to this smoothie overwhelms it). Avocado is great for hydrating the skin while mangos and pineapple give skin a beautiful glow, thanks to carotenoids.
