Zero Waste Gift Ideas

zero waste christmas

Sealuxe has some awesome zero-waste ideas that will make wonderful gifts, especially for that hard-to-buy-for person on your list.

Show your loved ones you care by adopting a seal! When you symbolically adopt harbour seal pups Astrid and Webby – or one of the Marine Mammal Centre’s other animal patients such as a sea otter, sea lion, or dolphin – your gift will give back by providing the food and medical care that sick and injured animals need in order to return to their watery homes for the holidays. Note – this is an American charity but we added it to this list because they are great.

Adopt-A-Seal here.

A little closer to home in Port Moody is the Pacific Wildlife Foundation. These fine people have various programs including the North Salish Sea Atlas Project, BC Parks iNaturalist Project, the Recovery of Humpback Whale Project, scientific discovery programs – and that’s just naming a few this non-profit does! Give a gift as a gift right here.

You can never go wrong with supporting those who do so much for our wildlife. The Wildlife Rescue’s Fur and Feathers program includes an adoption certificate, species information, and charitable tax receipt. You can adopt a variety of animals from the Anna’s hummingbird and Cooper’s hawk to the Northern pygmy owl and Douglas squirrel. The online adoption page is right here.

Another favourite local charity of ours is the Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue. This local group rescues more than 1,400 cats and kittens every year. All donations go towards “funding supplies, equipment, veterinary, and operational costs to ensure the cats in our care are warm, safe, and healthy. Your gift also supports our many initiatives, such as our successful Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program.” Easy to do this online right here and you can donate in anyone’s name.

There is also SAINTS. These wonderful people are based in Mission, BC, and are an end-of-life sanctuary for senior and special needs animals that have nowhere else to go. You can donate, sponsor, or donate in memory one of their animals. Believe me, these kind souls are worth every penny you can send.

If you’d still like to give a little something, rest assured you will be doing the environment a favour when you purchase Sealuxe products. We use organic and natural ingredients in our bath and beauty line. Even our soaps are wrapped in a biodegradable film! Buying reusable Organic Makeup Remover Pads for the skincare lovers on your list, for instance, goes a long way to being green as they are made from organic hemp and cotton and are washer and dryer friendly!
