Spring Cleaning: Health-Friendly and Affordable Tips

Why not make cleaning healthy with spring just around the corner.

We here at Sealuxe feel it’s important to remind you about the dangers of using some chemical cleaners around the home. Many cleaning supplies can not only irritate the eyes and throat but can also trigger other health problems, including cancer.

It’s best to avoid products that don’t contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs), irritants, fragrances inflammable ingredients as well as all air fresheners. For more information, the American Lung Association is a great resource.

We’ve been conditioned to think these harmful products are the best for cleaning. That is simply not true. Warm water and soap often do the trick, baking soda is wonderful for scrubbing tiles and other hard surfaces. A mixture of vinegar and water is superb for cleaning glass.

Here are other tips that will both save your health and your money.

When Life Hands You Lemons…

Use this fruit for cleaning! Rub half a lemon on water stains that show up on faucets. The citric acid in lemons goes to work on water marks beautifully. Plus, it smells so fresh.

Take the other half of that lemon, and squeeze the juice into half a cup of water. Drop the lemon rinds into the mixture. Microwave for three minutes and let stand for five minutes without opening the door. The trapped steam created by the mix loosens all the food splatter, making it a cinch to wipe clean!

Read the News!

Newspapers are excellent for cleaning dirty windows and mirrors. News ink is a mild abrasive and the paper soaks up the moisture without streaking. It’s magic! All you have to do is mix ¼ white vinegar with two cups of water, and two teaspoons of liquid soap into a spray bottle. Never buy glass cleaner again.

No More Crying over BBQ Build-up

This is a good one! Heat your BBQ grill up and spray white vinegar on the grates. This helps loosen the residue. Then scrub the area firmly with half an onion. The acid from the onion rids your grill of any leftover remnants. You’ll be crying tears of joy!

The Brightest Time of the Day

Nothing like that afternoon sunshine to show off all the collected dust! This also includes computer and TV screens. Where did all those smudges and fingerprints come from?! No matter, use a coffee filter to rub them away. Don’t use too much pressure, though.

Shine Down on Me

Oh, you’ll love this one. Mix 1 teaspoon of cream of tartar with just enough water to make a paste. Rub the mixture on your stainless-steel appliances. Wipe to reveal the shine!

This is just a smattering of ideas that are out there. They work and, gosh, you won’t be spending more than 10 bucks even if you use all of the above tips! Enjoy spring cleaning, naturally!
