Dalgona Coffee Recipe

dalgona coffee

A new take on this week’s smoothie recipe is inspired by one of the latest trends to hit people’s kitchens – Whipped Coffee.

Have you seen photos of this drink in your IG feed? It looks scrumptious, a frothy peak of caramel on a full glass of milk (or non-dairy milk). Stir it together and you have something called dalgona coffee.

Dalgona coffee hails from India or Pakistan where it is known as whipped coffee. But it caught on with the rest of the world when it was featured on a Korean TV show when actor Jung II-Woo traveled to Macau and nicknamed the drink dalgona as it looks like traditional Korean sponge candy of the same name.

The ingredients are simple: instant coffee, sugar, hot water, milk, and – in the name of SeaLuxe smoothies – a scoop of protein powder.

Dalgona Coffee With Me

  • 2 tbsp instant coffee

  • 2 tbsp sugar

  • 2 tbsp hot water (the water must be HOT)

  • 1 cup of milk (we prefer almond or another plant-based milk but regular milk can also be used)

  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder

Boil water. Mix the two tablespoons of hot water with two tablespoons sugar and two tablesppons of instant coffee.

Froth the mixture into a soft-medium peak by using a strand mixer, a milk foamer, or by hand (using just a teaspoon. It’ll take a while doing it by hand but it can be done).

If you want a hot dalgona latte, prewarm the milk. Or place the milk into a cup of ice if you want an iced latte. Mix the protein into the milk.

Spoon the mixture onto the milk.

Drink and enjoy!
