Wake Me Up Smoothie Recipe

I probably drink too much coffee. Yes, I know. I’m first to admit there’s a bit of denial going on. The word “probably” should not be in that sentence because I know I drink too much coffee – and love every drop of it. But drinking more than two cups a day isn’t good for us. We’re too stimulated and it catches up to us at night as caffeine surges through our system.

Same goes for energy drinks. Too much isn’t good for you. So, what to do? Those afternoon crashes aren’t going anywhere fast! Plus it seems to take me a full week to recover from daylight savings, argh.

Enter a healthy smoothie that not only tastes great but will also pick you up. You’ll wonder, like me, why you didn’t do this earlier. This smoothie contains matcha green tea extract. Not only does that have high levels of antioxidants but it gives you an energy and focus boost without energy crashes and headaches caused by consuming too much caffeine. Matcha tea contains lots of L-theanine which helps guide us into feeling calmer.

Matcha is safe in regular amounts, up to 200 milligrams (which is about two to five cups of matcha tea, depending on how strong you like it). Again, it is still caffeinated so don’t go overboard.
