September is National Skin Care Awareness Month
It’s September as of Sunday which means National Skin Care Awareness Month kicks off!
National Skin Care Awareness Month is traditionally celebrated in September (not to be confused with National Skin Cancer Awareness Month in May). Us in the skincare world like to celebrate this month by learning about new natural ways of taking care of our skin as well as sharing that information.
Did you know that natural skin care goes all the way back to 4th millennium BC in China and the Middle East? Evidence suggests that ancient Egyptians developed many natural skin care treatments for a variety of conditions. A treatment for inflamed skin, for instance, was made of a concoction of bullock’s bile, whipped ostrich eggs, olive oil, dough, and resin mixed with milk!
We used natural products for eons until recent decades when formulas were concocted in labs and marketing teams realized they had a willing audience that would eat up their slogans and spend great sums of money. Remember when soapy lather was considered a good step of a skin care regime? And remember how tight your face would feel after this lather stripped your skin of all its natural oils? No wonder! Lather is usually caused by something called sodium laural sulfate which was originally created as an engine degreaser. Oh, you should know that many body washes contain this – look for sulfate and fragrance-free body washes or just go with a simple and non-drying soap such as SeaLuxe’s favourites.
This is a good time to reassess your skin care regime. The summer months are hard on the skin and no matter how diligent we are with protecting our skin, there’s always a little resulting damage.
Do you use a gentle exfoliator? A good moisturizer?
Getting into the habit of looking after your skin will not take any more than five minutes a day. That’s a heck of a reward for having great skin for decades to come!
Did you know facials will also help your skin recover from the elements – whether from the sun, wind, pollution? Our favourite recovery mask is the Seaweed Face Mask. This super-powered mask rejuvenates, exfoliates and deep cleans. The nutrient-heavy mask of natural powerhouse ingredients such as sea clay, spirulina, and kelp helps to firm and replenish skin.
We cannot say enough good things about this mask and we are sure your fall skin will love it, too.
