SeaLuxe at Got Craft? and SHIFT!
With apologies to Anna Jarvis (we wrote about the founder of Mother’s Day in a recent post), this weekend is a great time to pick up something special for mom!
SeaLuxe has an exciting and busy weekend ahead with appearances at two different markets! That’s right. If you’re located in the Fraser Valley, we’ll be at The SHIFT Spring Fling market in Langley at the West Langley Lions Hall Saturday only from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. SHIFT, run by sisters Leslie and Jill, is a great little market that focuses on quality and unique handmade gifts. Interesting factoid: when not running markets, Jill is an electrical engineer while Leslie is a dance teacher. Cool beans!
Because we happen to own a cloning machine, SeaLuxe will also be at Got Craft? at Vancouver’s Maritime Labour Centre Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This market started 11 years ago by husband-wife team Andrea and Robert in 2007 and has grown to hosting more than 75 designers. Another cool thing about Got Craft? is The Fraser Wilson Mural which resides on the walls of the auditorium. The 85-foot long mural, painted in 1947, depicts a mid-1940s B.C. industrial scene. The left side of the mural shows workers plying their trade around the province while the other side shows Vancouver’s working waterfront with a fishing boat navigating rough waters.
The mural was originally installed at the former Marine Workers and Boilmakers building at 339 West Pender and moved to the Marine Workers hall. Interestingly, the building was also known as the Pender Ballroom and it was home to Vancouver’s first psychedelic club, the Afterthought. In 1966, it was where the Grateful Dead played their first Vancouver show.
