October is the official start of pumpkin season in our minds.

Not only is this vegetable tasty, it is incredibly healthy for you. What’s also cool is that, unlike most other vegetables, you’re not missing out on vegetables and nutrients by eating the canned version.

Just be sure to buy the canned kind that does not have added salt or sugar. If the label reads “100 percent pumpkin” that’s the one to buy. Pumpkin – both fresh and canned – have high levels of potassium, Vitamin A, and iron.

To get ourselves into the October mood, we’d like to share this delicious and nutritious drink with you.

Life Is Gourd Smoothie Recipe

  • ¼ c pumpkin puree (don’t use pumpkin pie filling as that contains heaps of sugar and spices)

  • ½ c almond milk

  • ¼ tsp ground cinnamon

  • Dash of ground ginger

  • Dash of ground nutmeg

  • 1 tsp of maple syrup (for sweetening)

  • 1 ½ c ice cubes

Blend and enjoy!
