Morning Skincare Routine Tips

Are you using your skincare products in the right order?

Are you using your skincare products in the right order?

I’ve had many discussions about skincare routines of late. One of those conversations was with a friend of mine, a dermatologist, who has some additional skincare tips she would like to share with SeaLuxe readers.

The morning is critical for the health of our skin as this is when we tend to pile on the products, i.e. sunscreen, and when we’re the most rushed (as opposed to our evening routines as we’re not sprinting out of the door to work/school/taking the kids somewhere).

Tip-Top Tips

We’ve touched on this one before but it’s crucial to apply your products within a few minutes of cleansing while your skin is still damp. Speaking of cleansing, it is also important to use the right motion with your fingertips so you increase circulation as you wash. Put cleanser on your fingertips and gently glide them over your nose to your forehead and down to the cheeks. Cleansing by using the ‘M’ shape is so beneficial that some claim to look like they’ve had an extra hour’s sleep!

If your face feels tight and looks red after washing in the morning, skip the face cleanser and either use a gentle product such as SeaLuxe’s Goddess Grains Cleanser or something formulated for sensitive skin. If this isn’t working, there’s nothing wrong with using plain water or micellar water. Micellar water can be purchased at your local drug store and is a simple formulation of tiny oil molecules in water that pulls the dirt and oil out of your skin in the gentlest way possible. There’s also no need to wipe micellar water off after use so it’s also great for travel.

The order of application should be:

  • Cleansing

  • Serum

  • Sunscreen (unless it’s zinc-oxide or titanium-dioxide. Then it should be last)

  • Moisturizer

  • Eye cream

Speaking of eye cream, my friend also recommended putting it around your lips. Our lips tend to age faster than other parts of our faces as they don’t get any special attention other than balm. I know I’ve not applied an SPF to my lips countless times. Eye creams are heavy on the nutrients and are made to soothe wrinkles and encourage elastin.
