A Little Kelp for our Friends - Smoothie Recipe
It’s not only time for another SeaLuxe smoothie recipe – it’s time for a seaweed smoothie recipe!
That’s right. Most of our smoothies (we say most because we post ones that are plain ol’ treats now and then. Because we deserve it, right?!) are super healthy. One of the healthiest ingredients around is seaweed so it’s not a bad idea to include it in your diet as much as you can.
The sea vegetable contains everything our bodies need. We’re talking minerals, essential amino and fatty acids, antioxidants, protein, fibre, and a bunch of compounds that we’re only now beginning to understand just how powerful they all are. Perhaps, on that note, it would be more accurate to say we’re now only re-discovering the powerful effects of seaweed here in North America. It has been used by coastal indigenous communities for eons and in Asia for thousands of years.
This smoothie recipe comes by way of a SeaLuxe blog reader. They didn’t invent this smoothie but pointed us in the direction of the recipe and asked us to try it.
This recipe comes all the way from New Zealand, from a seaweed company called Pacific Harvest, and we tried it! It hits all the right buttons on the nutrition front as well as being tasty! It has a slight salty taste, thanks to the kelp, but we went ahead an added the maple syrup. The combination of salty and sweet is bomb.
So, over to the fellow seaweed-lovers at Pacific Harvest.
Coconut water and meat from young coconut OR one cup coconut milk or cream
1 cup frozen berries of your choice
1/2 tsp coconut butter
1/2 tsp kelp powder (available at health food stores)
1/4 cup macadamia nuts soaked in 1/2 cup filtered water overnight OR 1/4 cup almond milk
1 cup ice cubes
Maple syrup to taste
Note from SeaLuxe - if you find the drink too thick, add more coconut milk or one cup of water
Blend and enjoy!
