Superhero Smoothie Recipe
Prep is queen when it comes to eating healthy. We all know it’s so easy to grab something on the go when in a hurry or when you’re hungry (or, especially, hangry).
Chopping vegetables and fruit to store in the fridge or freezer makes this so much easier. Because I, for one, will just as easily go for junk food if the healthy options aren’t readily available. It doesn’t take too much planning to prep, and it’s best done on a full stomach. Sometimes I do it on a Sunday night or a Monday morning – but I must plan to prep as it is a chore.
That being said, this smoothie recipe does take a teeny tiny bit of prep work. It’s super easy – all it is involved is steeping green tea and then pouring tea into an ice cube tray before sticking it in the freezer. The benefits are worth it. Green tea is one of the healthiest things you can drink. It is loaded with antioxidants and nutrients that are said to improve brain function, lower risk of cancer, and help with fat loss.
The antioxidants in green tea have shown that drinking it regularly helps reduce several types of cancers including breast, prostate, and colorectal. Green tea contains amino acid L-theanine which helps increase the activity of inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA, which has anti-anxiety effects. It is also said to improve the production of alpha waves in the brain and L-theanine combined with caffeine, can improve brain function.
On the fat loss front, green tea consumption is said to improve physical performance by mobilizing fatty acids and making them available to our bodies to use for energy.
So, with no further ado, here’s the recipe for the…
1 cup fresh strawberries
¼ cup almond milk (we don’t like to mix dairy milk with green tea as it’s said milk reduces the antioxidant punch of green tea)
½ juiced lime
1 tablespoon honey
5 fresh mint leaves
Three or four green tea ice cubes
Blend except for the green tea ice cubes, adding those to the blender once the mixture is smooth.
