Cool As A Cucumber Smoothie Recipe

One of the first beauty tricks I learned was putting cucumbers on tired and puffy eyes. I think I was always tired as a teenager, I really could have spent every minute of those years in bed no problem. But because I only had a measly eight (ha!) hours of sleep a night, my eyes were always puffy. So I’d put cucumbers on my eyes and lie down for 15 minutes. Thanks for the tip Teen Magazine!

While that’s a trick that still holds up, the mighty cucumber is also great for your insides, too.  Cucumbers contain antioxidants, those wonderful molecules that block oxidation. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that forms highly reactive atoms with unpaired electrons called free radicals. An accumulation of free radicals is the root cause of many chronic illnesses.

Cucumbers are also thought to aid in digestive regularity as well as help lower blood sugar levels.

One of the best ways for me to pile on the cucumber is to put it into a delicious smoothie!


  • ½ cup unsweetened almond milk

  • ½ cup apple juice

  • ½ cucumber

  • ½ banana

  • ½ cup frozen strawberries

  • ½ cup pineapple (tinned is okay)

  • Handful of spinach or kale


Add all the liquids to the blender and then add the solids.

Blend and enjoy!
