Cherry Sweet Smoothie Recipe
You know what starts this month here in BC? CHERRY SEASON! If you are fortunate enough to live in the beautiful province of British Columbia, or have travelled through the Okanagan on your summer holidays, then you’ll know what I’m talking about. Those deep red, juicy, sweetly tart BC cherries.
Cherries grow particularly well in the Okanagan, Similkameen, and Creston Valley areas of the province where summer days are long and dry while the nights are cool thanks to lake and mountain breezes. There are many different varieties of cherries grown in the area including the heart-shaped 'chelan', which was developed in the US Pacific Northwest, 'lapin' which is a variety bred by Dr. Charles Lapins and is known as the sweetest-flavoured cherry, and 'sentennial', a high-yielding cherry that darkens early but takes a long time to sweeten – one of the reasons it ships and stores well.
Regardless of what cherry you love the most, or have access to, they all taste great in this wonderful smoothie!
YOU ARE CHERRY SWEET
- 1 c fresh cherries, pitted (frozen will do, as well)
- 1 peach, sliced (Okanagan-grown as well, if you can!)
- ¾ cup almond milk (regular milk or water is also fine)
- 1 lime (juice only)
- ½ c ice cubes or crushed ice
Blend and enjoy!
