Apple of My Eye Smoothie Recipe

Apple cider vinegar is said to have amazing health benefits. While it does contain some amino acids and antioxidants, some say its power lies in killing harmful bacteria (not a big surprise as vinegar is a marvelous – and safe – household cleaning and disinfecting tool). Studies show taking apple cider vinegar on a regular basis helps lower blood sugar and cholesterol as well as act as an appetite suppressant. Sore tummy? Sip some water with a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar mixed in. Hiccups? Same as above. Sore throat? Mix ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar with ¼ cup warm water and gargle every hour (don’t swallow).

I used to drink apple cider vinegar in shot form but stopped when I learned that this method can be harmful. While the high acidic content of apple cider vinegar may be great for your body’s PH level, it can damage tooth enamel and the esophagus. Don’t need that, thanks. The best way to take it is to mix it in a drink. One to two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in one cup of water seems to get the general vote. OR, how about in a smoothie, hey?

  • 1 ripe apple, diced

  • 1 handful of spinach

  • 2 tablespoons ground flax

  • ¼ tsp cinnamon

  • 1 tsp honey

  • 2 tbs raw, quality unfiltered organic apple cider vinegar (I like Bragg’s)

  • 1 cup of water OR ½ water and ½ your favourite nut drink

  • Pinch pink Himalayan salt

  • Handful of ice

Blend and enjoy!
