From ancient Greek mythology to modern-day poetry, the rose has been used as a symbol of love, passion, and beauty. The flower’s exquisite appearance goes more than petal-deep, though, as roses, or more accurately, rose essential oil is a wonderful ingredient in natural skincare.
Sealuxe uses roses in our product line, namely in our Rose Face Mask, Ritual Rose Soap Bar, Ritual Rose Bath Tea, Rose Bath Salts, and Rose Body Oil.
Rose oil is one of the most expensive oils on the market because it is made from a process called steam distillation. After rose petals are harvested, usually by hand during the early hours of the morning when the oil content is at its highest, they are placed in a distillation chamber where steam is passed through them. The steam causes the oil to evaporate and rise to the top of the chamber. The rose oil is collected, separated from the water caused by the steam, and stored in a dark container to preserve its fragrance and potency.
The top three reasons Sealuxe incorporates rose essential oil in our products:
- Anti-aging properties. Rose oil contains antioxidants which help prevent cell damage caused by free radicals. Furthermore, its anti-inflammatory properties also help the skin look its best as it goes a long way to reducing redness and inflammation.
- Moisturizing. Rose oil helps lock in moisture and keeps skin hydrated which makes it an especially excellent choice for dry skin. Studies show that rose oil can help to stimulate collagen production in the skin. When combined with seaweed, you’re maximizing your skin’s ability to maintain its elasticity.
- Scent. Rose oil is relaxing and calming for both the skin and the mind. While its relaxing scent may be due to a subconscious response based on individual associations, its scent is created by a complex combination of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) including geraniol, citronellol, and nerol, are all known to have a relaxing effect on the nervous system.
