Protein, Naturally Smoothie Recipe

Years ago, when I bought my first real blender (one that actually worked and actually did its job and blended its contents!) I went on a smoothie craze. I didn’t think too much about what I was throwing into the mix. It was usually just a banana, some milk, and protein powder. I eventually got so tired of the chemically-tasting, powdery protein that I stopped drinking smoothies altogether and the blender found its way into the back of the pantry.

I eventually found it again and found a new love for smoothies that, with a little experimentation, tasted amazing and without that weird powdery taste (you might remember, we were told protein powder was the key thing to get in shape).

While the taste of protein powders have greatly improved over the last decade, I still sometimes prefer to get my protein more naturally. This following smoothie features Greek yogurt (15 grams per half cup), grass fed milk (8.4 grams in a cup), nut butter (3.2 grams in 1 tablespoon of almond butter) as well as hemp seeds (7 grams in two tablespoons) – all great sources of protein.

Sweet Strawberry Smoothie

  • 1 cup strawberries
  • ½ cup Greek yogurt
  • 1 cup skim milk (grass fed)
  • 1 tablespoon hemp seeds

(I sometimes add a teaspoon of honey to sweeten smoothies up. That’s totally up to you!)

Blend and enjoy!
