Good friends give baked goods
Give your friends good tidings of comfort and joy in the form of fresh baked goods. My favourite fail proof cookie recipe is from Company’s Coming, Chocolate Chippers recipe. You’ll want to make a double batch because these cookies are a hit. To make the same ones I suggest below the recipe, omit the chocolate chips and nuts and divide a double batch into four.
Cream butter and sugar together. Beat in eggs 1 at a time. Add vanilla.
Stir flour, cornstarch, salt and baking soda together and add. Stir in chips and nuts. Drop by spoonfuls onto greased baking sheet. Bake in 350°F (180°C) oven for 10 to 15 minutes. Makes about 5 dozen.
Switch things up a little to make four festive cookies:
- add 3/4 of cup of red and green smarties
- add 1/4 of a cup of crushed candy canes and 3/4 of a cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips
- add milk chocolate Hershey's kisses to the center of the dough
- add 1 tsp. of cinnamon, 1 1/2 tsp. of ginger powder, 1/4 cup of crushed walnuts and 3/4 of a cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips
Give the gift of self love
Reuse your bottles and jars and turn them into a gift of self care. Bath salts and after-bath oil are easy, affordable and the ingredients are easy to access if you don’t already have them in your pantry.
To make bath salts you will need:
- 2 lbs of fine grain sea salt
- Lavender essential oil
- two tea bags of chamomile herbal tea
To mix add roughly a ¼ of the salts to a large bowl and add 12 drops of the essential oil. Mix well then add the remaining ingredients.
To make an after bath oil add 1 ½ cups of grapeseed oil, 2 Tablespoons of avocado oil, 1 teaspoon of olive oil and 10 drops of lavender essential oil together and mix well.
Easy Christmas Ornaments for the Beach Lover
Make easy Christmas ornaments with your beach combing finds from your friends favourite beach. Buy clear glass Christmas ornaments from Michaels or Hobby Lobby and add a little bit of sand, seaweed, driftwood, seaglass, feathers, shells, pebbles or anything else you find while beachcombing that will fit through the tiny opening in the ornament. Put a label of the beach it came from, buy an nice box, tissue paper and ribbon and you have a gift that the receiver will keep for years.
